Winter Driving - Tips on being prepared!

December 18, 2014 1 min read

Greetings Everyone,

Winter has landed in Canada!  We just saw our first major snowfall last week in Ontario and it definitely caused some disruptions in our ongoing daily lives.  Make sure you're prepared this winter with some of these tips.

To prepare for winter driving conditions, try to keep these things in mind:

- Let other people know where your schedule before heading out (at least a general one)

- If you haven't already, make sure your vehicle has a set of winter tires.  All season tires are really only meant for Spring/Summer/Fall.  When the temperature drops below 7 degrees, it's HIGHLY recommended to switch to winter tires.

- Check your cell phone battery.  As unexpected things can occur while in winter driving conditions, take the extra effort to make sure your cell phone battery has enough charge in it - in the event you need to make a emergency call or need assistance from a friend or roadside.

- WINTER DRIVING KIT.  Once again, as things can happen unexpectedly - make sure you have yourself an emergency kit for the winter.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Warm winter boots, gloves, and toque
  • First Aid Kit
  • Small shovel
  • Blanket and/or extra clothings
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Battery jumper cables
  • Bottled water
  • Snacks
  • Extra windshield washer fluid
  • Roadside Assistance Kit

Stay safe!
